In Release, four shots showing Fay Wray in the sacrifice scene from KING KONG (1933) are dissected into fragments and repeated thousands of times, shifting in the smallest increments of time. However, because the human eye does not move so quickly, the fast sequence generates a new, almost organic motion. Staccato montage and a soundtrack that sounds both synthetic and archaic intensify the original sequence, turning it into a destructive obsession.
